I work with mice. It’s a really important part of my PhD. We take extremely good care of them and we have a vet that regularly checks up on them

Testing on animals are what we call Phase 0 clinical trials, and I don’t do that. I mostly design Phase III trials which are larger studies in humans.

I have been a part of animal studies but never did it for my studies. I would like to avoid it if possible by any means.

I work with rats. We do our best to take care of them and avoid any procedure that could be harmful for the animal

Not me personally at the moment, but it would be needed to evaluate the safety of any drugs we discover before testing them in humans. Scientists need to take special ethics courses when working with animals to ensure that the minimum possible number of animals are used, that the research is important and worthwhile and that the well being of the animals is held first and foremost, as much as possible.
