I just checked the list of protiens that I use in my work for proteins we have discovered. The number so far is 561,356. Though there is another list of possible proteins and that number is 181,787,788. THe crazy things about proteins is that they can and usually are modified with different molecules so the same protien than exist with 10-100’s of different modifications so potentially there could be in excess of 181,787,788,000 (so a lot!)
