Cancer can refer to lots of different diseases with many different causes. Generally, it develops when cells in our body develop mutations that stop them regulating their normal growth. This causes them to multiply uncontrollably, sometimes causing tumours. These mutations can have lots of causes, such as genetics (our family history) and environmental or lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, smoking, UV radiation, certain types of pollution.
