• Question: Why did you all decide to enter this competition?

      Goodness, I didn’t realise it was a competition! It came through my email, and I already help out in my local primary school where they conducted their own clinical trial last year. Their question was, does listening to your teacher with a blindfold mean you’re less distracted and so retain more than listening to the teacher without the blindfold! They found it did improve their retention.

      I wanted to help raise interest in science and hopefully show how interesting it is by sharing my day to day experiences

      I think it’s a great idea, I’d have loved to have taken part as a student 15 years ago in secondary school as it’s hard to form a picture of what a scientist’s day-to-day job is like without actually getting work experience in a lab. In general, I think it’s important for scientists to be open and engaging with people and society about science and our work – it’s as important as the research and labwork imo.
